Primordia Writing Circle
an intimate writing community to share, receive, and grow
Primordia Circles are designed to help you develop your words-in-process in the company of others.
I’ve developed this community approach to writing and sharing over decades, as a positive and motivating alternative to traditional writing groups where giving and receiving unduly harsh feedback is more common. Writers receive guidance about giving supportive feedback.
In our welcoming circle, you will find joy in connection with other writers, build trust with another another, develop confidence in your writing and in sharing your words, as well as improve the quality of your writing as you hone your craft.
Each circle offers space to focus on your own writing. During this solo time, new and surprising words often emerge that inspire a whole new dynamic or layer of meaning in your story. After this period of focus, we come together and take turns reading aloud what we just wrote, or a piece of another project we would like feedback on (this is always optional). Before sharing, you have the opportunity to define what level of feedback you’re looking for. As an audience, we are receptive, attuned, and supportive.
Every Primordia Writing Circle includes:
- An opening grounding meditation to enter the space
- A brief check-in to share where you’re at and what you are working on today
- The offer of a writing prompt if you would like one
- 40-45 minutes of quiet, focused writing. You can generate fresh writing during this time, or work on an existing project.
- A short break to make tea and coffee, or have a small snack
- The opportunity to be an attuned, supportive listener; taking notes on what stands out in others’ writing. You too are a vessel of inspiration, insight, and motivation for the writers in your circle
- A final check-in, and a thoughtful pause to close the circle
